Joel Montero

At the Staatstheater Darmstadt Joel Montero was from 2010 to 2014 as ,Rodolfo in LaBohème Don José in Carmen, Ismaele in Nabucco, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Hoffmann in Hoffmann’s tales, Don Alvaro in La forza del Destino, Turiddu in Cavalleria rusticana, Tambourmajor in Alban Bergs Wozzeck, Luigi in Puccini’s Il Tabarro as well as in the title part in Verdis Otello.

Joel Montero was born in Mexico and devoted himself to conducting, Until his vocal talent was discovered and he changed to singing. In Salzburg at the University Mozarteum, to attend his singing studies with Heiner Hopfner 1999. Montero won the special prize of the Competition Montserrat Caballé in Andorra and became the following year in Romania in the tenor competition “Traian Grozavescu” with the Luigi Infantino-Price. In 2001, he received an offer from the International Opera-studios Zürich and the Staatstheater Meiningen” Germany

He chose the most interesting parts for Meiningen, where he was up Summer 2008 ensemble member and as an Italian singer (Der Rosenkavalier), Count Almaviva (The Barber of Seville), Alfredo (La Traviata), Seaman (Tristan And Isolde), Steuermann (The Flying Dutchman), Camille de Rosillon (Die Funny widow), Barinkay (The Gypsy Baron), Narraboth (Salome), Count Zedlau (Wiener Blut), Fenton (Falstaff), Hoffmann (Hoffmann’s tales), Nemorino (L’Elisir d’Amore), Rodolfo (La Bohème) and Manrico (Il Trovatore).

Guest contracts led him among others. To the Mecklenburg State Theater Schwerin, To the theater Chemnitz, Staatsoperette Dresden, theater Plauen-Zwickau, Landestheater Niederbayern Passau, Landestheater Coburg, Theater Regensburg, Theater Augsburg, Theater Freiburg, Brandenburger Theater as well as to the Bad Hersfeld and in the Bremen bell. In addition, he was a guest at the Theater Principal Palma (Spain), Teatro Degollado (Mexico) and Finland, Romania, Austria, Switzerland, Kazakhstan and as Gennaro in “I Gioielli della Madonna “by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari at the Opera Holland Park in London.

During this time, Montero worked with directors such as Christine Mielitz, Roland Schwab, John Dew, Phillip Stölzl, Andrea Moses, Stefan Tilch, Ansgar Haag, Gottfried Pilz, Jens Pesel, Martin Lloyd-Evans, René Zisterer and Roman Hovenbitzer.

Conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Alan Buribayev, Constantin Trinks, José Maria Moreno, Johannes Wildner, Lukas Meister and Matteo Beltrami.

In the summer of 2015 Montero sang for the second time at the Opera Holland Park Festival, the part of the Avito in Italo Montemezzi’s opera L’amore dei tre Re. Also at the Almaty Opera House in Kazakhstan, Montero was 2015 as Don José involved.

For the season 2016 – 2017 includes the Roles of Don José in Theater Hof‘s season of Carmen in Germany, Don Alfredo Bartos in Anhaltisches Theater Dessau‘s season of Lady Hamilton in Germany and Milio Opera Holland Park‘s season of Zàzà by Riggero Leoncavallo in London.
